Riya Sen

After making her debut in Bengali films with a small role in Rituparno Ghosh’s Abohomaan, Riya Sen says she is open to do movies of all genres in her mother tongue. Riya, who began her acting career in 1991 as a child artiste with Hindi film “Vishkanya”, says her foray into Bengali films got delayed as she wanted her first Bengali film to be directed by Ghosh.

“I always wanted my first film to be directed by him. And I must say I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He is a family friend. I was very comfortable,” Riya told IANS in an interview. She played the daughter-in-law of the protagonist in Abohomaan, produced by Reliance BIG Pictures, and says she loved the role of the young, middle-class Bengali bride.

“She is rebellious and English speaking. I was completely at home,” she said. “Now that I have started acting in Bengali films, I will look forward to working with various directors. I would like to act in films of all genres,” added the 29-year-old model-turned-actress.

Riya and her sister Raima will now appear on screen in Ghosh’s yet-to-be-released Hindi movie “Noukadubi”. Though the siblings don’t have a single scene together, Riya said it was a “lovely experience”. “She (Raima) was extremely caring. She took care of all my needs,” said Riya. When told that people would now start comparing them, Riya said: “Well, I guess people will do that. But there is no competition between us. We don’t see each other as rivals.

Asked whether she was satisfied with the way her film career has progressed, Riya said: “Yeah, I am very happy. I have lately been choosy about films. When you start your career, you act in all kinds of movies. You don’t pick and choose. But later on, you may feel that there were some films where you should have given a second thought before saying yes.”

The actress, who has acted in Bollywood hits like Jhankaar Beats, Qayamat and Apna Sapna Money Money, says walking the ramp made her more confident while facing the camera as an actress. “I guess the experience adds to one’s confidence, though not to a large extent.” Daughter of former Bollywood diva Moon Moon Sen and granddaughter of Bengali film legend Suchitra Sen, Riya claims hard work and not lineage made her a successful actor.

“It is after all hard work and sheer hard work which pays. And I am game for slogging it out. I don’t care if people compare me to my grandmother. I can never be like my grandmother. Nor was my grandmother ever like me. People may compare me with her or my mother Moon Moon. But I am cool about it,” she said.

Udita Goswami Content With Her Work

Udita Goswami

Udita Goswami

Udita Goswami is not feeling lagged behind in the rat race that has seen many newbies overtaking her in B-town. The gal made her debut with Pooja Bhatt’s Paap six years ago and has since then been seen in only a few films.

“Even though I am just five films old, I am content doing less work and don’t care what people say about me. I am satisfied and don’t believe in over exposure,” Udita is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Presently, Udita is looking forward to the release of her next film “Rokkk” on March 5. In the movie, she plays Aahana, a MBA student from Delhi who comes to Goa in search of her missing sister.

“Even though horror and super-natural genre is not very popular, I think Rokkk is by far the best super-natural thriller made in India. Success of a film depends on how the story is handled and brought on screen by the director irrespective of its genre,” she is quoted as saying.

Besides Rokkk, Udita will also be seen in an unglamourous role in Jagmohan Mundra’s Chase. She has also shot for a small role in Sunny Deol’s film The Man.

John Abraham For “Race 2″

Some names are dropped from the Race sequel and some new names are added to it. The name that requires special mention is stylish John Abraham.

Saif Ali Khan will remain in Race 2 but Akshaye Khanna and Katrina Kaif has been dropped. Race 2 is said to be more exciting and stylish than the original. John Abraham has read the script and liked his part very much. He has given his nod for the film. A source reveals, “John read the script and really liked it. After Dhoom, this is the second script he liked in just one sitting. The character he’s playing is not only flamboyant but also has a huge collection of imported cars and bikes. Everyone knows that John is an avid bike rider.” Speaking about his look in the film, a source said, “His look is extremely sexy and sophisticated.

The film also has lot of stunts, car chases and some deep-sea diving scenes.

They still are location hunting to figure out where to base the film.” When contacted, Ramesh Taurani said.

The script is being finalized and we have only cast Saif and Anil Kapoor till now.” Apart from John, some new actors will be included.

Bipasha Wants John Out Of Chenab Gandhi

Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu

It’s well known that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has no plans to cast Hurman S Baweja in the much talked about movie “Chenab Gandhi“. John Abraham has replaced Hurman Baweja in the movie that is to be directed by Vibhu Puri. But John’s girlfriend Bipasha Basu wants him out of the project.

We didn’t know Bips was this possessive about John Abraham. The actress has been coaxing John Abraham to opt out of “Chenab Gandhi” because Vidya Balan is also part of the project. Vidya Balan’s presence alongside John makes Bipasha feel very insecure.

John and Vidya were last seen together in Nikhil Advani’s flop flick, “Salaam-E-Ishq“. While they shared good on screen chemistry, their off screen chemistry was more talked about. John was also apparently seen giving Vidya Balan a bike ride at Bandstand during the shooting of the film. All this had made Bipasha quiet jealous that time and the couple even had fights over it. John for long after that never signed any film opposite Vidya and vice-versa.

Recently, Vidya Balan opted out of David Dhawan’s “Hook Ya Crook” in which John plays the lead. But now with a plum project in their laps, we think the two will settle for a compromise. Wonder how John’s ladylove feels about this.

While the film “Chenab Gandhi” was scheduled to start in April, it has now got postponed to December 2009 because of John’s delay in allotting dates. This delay from John has been on purpose because he hopes by then Bipasha would cool down. But it doesn’t seem so, as the couple has again begun to have arguments over this issue.”

Chenab is a period film that is based on life of famous freedom fighter from the North West Frontier province, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan who was also known as Chenab Gandhi. Amitabh Bachchan is playing the title role.
