No Problems With Abhishek: Salman

July 22, 2007

salman-khan.jpgEverybody knows Salman Khan is one of the most kind harted chap in the industry. But where does he derives his inspiration from?

In a candid interview to a leading daily Khan reveals that he is inspired by Rajnikanth who has scrupulously given back to the people all that he has got from them.

“I want to do what he is doing. Whatever he earns, he is giving back to the people,” he says.

The 41-year-old intends to use his Salman Khan Foundation, which supports several charitable causes, to emulate Rajinikanth. The Foundation is unique because it is largely funded by Khan’s own efforts.

While Salman is known to be large hearted he hasn’t done particularly well in matters related to the heart. When it comes to women, Salman admits, “My dad has excellent taste in women but I can go wrong sometimes,” alluding perhaps to his relationship with Aishwarya.

Ask him about his sour relationship with his male co-stars John and Sallu even refuses to recgnise the handsome hunk.

His equation with Vivek Oberoi hasn’t improved much over the years either.

When asked about the possibilty of teaming up with Vivek he says, “Who’s that? Oh little Viveik, that idiot! Of course not.”

But Abhishek Bachchan still remains in his good books despite marrying Aishwarya Rai. “Why would I have a problem with Abhishek,” he asks leaving everyone perplexed.

John Abraham Finally Gets A Haircut

March 2, 2007

john-abraham-haircut.jpgHe’s finally done it. :) Apart from making it to the red carpet at the 2007 Academy Awards, Water star John Abraham also snipped off his trademark long tresses for a shorter crop courtesy ace stylist Sapna Bhavnani.

Says Sapna, “I’ve been coaxing John into cutting his hair for the last two months. This is the look he will be sporting for Goal, where he plays a football player.

He wanted to keep his long hair for the role, but I kept telling him it wouldn’t look nice. Finally, he relented!”

John’s good friend and designer Rocky S also chipped in with tips on his new look. “He cut his hair a few days before he left for Los Angeles for the Oscars.

He didn’t want people to discover his new look, so he always wore a cap in public. He wanted to unveil his new look on the Oscar red carpet, and I’m glad the entire world has got a glimpse of it now,” she says.

Interestingly, Bipasha wasn’t in town when John got his hair cropped. “She was in for a total surprise.

She hadn’t seen the new look until I showed her John’s pictures. I had taken a couple of snaps of John during the cutting process and showed them to Bipasha. She loved the look.”

When asked if it was an emotional moment for John to let go of his hair, she says, “Not really! He was very chilled out about the entire exercise.

In fact, now all these John Abraham wannabes who grew their hair long will be rushing to parlours to chop them off! There can only be one John Abraham, so it’s sad when people try to ape his style.”

Rocky S, who is in Paris at the moment, tells us about the black achkan he designed for John. “It’s a traditional achkan with a Western touch.

I think John carried it off really well on the red carpet,” he says. John left for London after the Oscar’s bash to join the cast and crew of Goal.

Water Will Be Released Now, After Seven Years

February 3, 2007

water_john.jpgOscar-nominated Canadian movie “Water” will be shown in cinemas across India later this month, seven years after angry Hindu nationalists stormed the sets, forcing its Indian-born director to stop filming. It’s a shame that an Indian movie, which so very well deserved an Oscar nomination, is yet to be released in India. All because some people want to satisfy their protest hunger…Idiots :(

But good news is that, this time, distributors say, they don’t foresee any trouble.

“We plan to release the film on Feb. 23 in theaters across the country,” Sanjay Bhutiani, the film’s distributor, said on Wednesday. He had earlier said it would be released in March.

The film’s Indian-born director, Deepa Mehta, had to abandon the shooting of the film in 2000 after Hindu nationalists, who alleged it was anti-Hindu, destroyed the sets in the holy city of Varanasi.

Canada-based Mehta resumed shooting the film in Sri Lanka four years later.

“We are trying to get Deepa Mehta to visit India for the film’s release,” Bhutiani said. “We don’t expect any trouble.”

“Water” has been nominated for an Academy Award in the best foreign language film category. The film, shot mainly in the Hindi language, centers on a home where widows were sent by their families to live in social exile. It depicts their desire to live a life free of stigma.

Under ancient Hindu tradition, widows were considered bad luck and sometimes even blamed for their husband’s death. Remarriage of widows was frowned upon _ although there were no such social barriers for widowers.

The Oscars will be presented Feb. 25 in Los Angeles.

John Abraham To Go Nude For No Smoking

October 23, 2006

johnabrahimnude.jpgAnurag Kashyap may have had a rough career as a filmmaker with two of his films Paanch and Black Friday stuck in the middle of controversies and not been released till date. But the man has now decided to strike back with his next film titled No Smoking starring John Abraham. The film is story about a chain smoker who wants to quit smoking and therefore joins a rehab. John plays this character of a chain smoker whose marriage comes in trouble because of his smoking addiction. Currently, there is also a buzz that John will be doing a nude scene in the film but Kashyap says that he hasn’t decided how that scene will be shot.

The film is being produced by Kumar Mangat who also produced Omkara. Vishal Bhardwaj will be doing the music of the film and the lyrics will be written by Gulzar. Besides John, the film also stars Ranvir Shorey and Joy Fernandes.
