October 27, 2006

jaan_e_mann_salman_akshay_coolbolly.jpgWell. He is one of my favorite Bro out there in Industry. To all those who haven’t watched Jaan-e-Mann, well guys you are missing too much. Believe me. Book your tickets today and go and watch it with your family or friends. Too hot not to be missed.

As far as our Bollywood Star Akshay Kumar’s performance is concerned, well he has been receiving huge critical acclaim for his role of a geek turned-spiffy- astronaut Agastya Rao in Jaan-e-Mann.

Since the release of the film, Akshay has got his hands full with loads of appreciation for his perfect portrayal of a curly haired geek with soda-rimmed glasses. He, indeed has, brought to life, a memorable character in a subtle manner with all the nuances.

Besides his electrifying screen presence, he has played a role against type, deftly tackling an unconventional role. The critics are raving about his performance in the film, as one reviewer puts it,”Akshay as the geek-turned-dapper nice guy, is fabulous and the most endearing character in the film.”

In fact, sources also say that Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan personally called him in Dubai, where he is shooting for ‘Welcome’ and complimented him for his performance.

Akshay has been receiving a lot of SMSs from the industry admiring his performance in ‘Jaan-e-Mann’. As one of the critics adds, ”This is an actor who seems to show increased maturity with every other role and he is definitely heading in the right direction.’’

But hey. Don’t forget the other superhero of the movie. One of my most favorite. Salman Khan has been rocking all the time, throughout his career. He rocks!!!! Overall, with Salman and Akshay both together in the movie, it makes it a treat to watch.

PS: Alright, there is Preity Zinta too. Didn’t remember

Sherlyn Chopra : I Don’t Feel Offended

October 27, 2006

mona_chopra_coolbolly.jpgBut obvious. We all know that she is never shy or feel insulted. But hey, the story goes like this:

Sherlyn Chopra did a small role in Suneel Darshan’s ‘Dosti’ but refused to do another one (of Kangana Ranaut’s sister) with similar length in his latest flick ‘Shaka Laka Boom’.

Even Isha Koppikar turned it down; which prompted Darshan to sarcastically remark, “You call them for a two-day role and they say they only want to do the heroine’s part.”

But Sherlyn isn’t upset with the maker’s statement in the media.

“Why should I feel offended? In fact, I’m happy that he’d thought of repeating me. I respect Suneelji a lot and had even enjoyed the itsy-bitsy role in ‘Dosti’. Its only that now I’ve moved on to doing meatier roles,” says the budding actress.

She however smiles and adds, “I’d love to work with him some day when he considers me good enough to be his movie’s heroine”.

Farhan On Sharukh And Don!!

October 27, 2006

shahrukh_khan_don_coolbolly.jpgFarhan speaks on his film Don, the location and the cast of Don. “Malaysia is almost like a character in my Don. See, the whole point of re-making a classic featuring Mr Bachchan was to give it my own twist.

I’ve tweaked my dad and Salim Saab’s script a bit. The essence of Don remains the same. But in terms of look, mood and flavour, my Don is very different. I’d say it’s my homage to the original. ”

The tuning between Farhan and his leading man Shah Rukh is the talk of Bollywood. “We were friends from before Don. See, both Shah Rukh and I are ardent fans of Don and Mr Bachchan.

When we finally started started working together it was like his enthusiasm combined with mine. Shah Rukh’s energy level is very infectious. He gives very intelligent suggestions.

And since I’m always open to suggestions—who says I’m not, that’s totally untrue– I enjoyed Shah Rukh’s inputs. Though I must tell you it’s a lot of hard work..”

Talk veers to the much talked-about Khai pe paan benaras wala song-and-dance. “We knew what Mr Bachchan had done to the song in the earlier Don. Shah Rukh and I weren’t even thinking about it when we took the plunge.

First of all, we’re a great fan of the song. It’s truly a monster of a song. But what Saroj-ji (Saroj Khan) did with Khai ke paan is incredible. Of course there’s an element of deja vu in the choreography. But Saroj-ji has taken the number somewhere else.”

The feisty filmmaker takes a deep breath. “In fact all of us are paying a homage to the earlier Don. It’s true that we’ve improved on the technical value immensely. But how far could we go with technique alone?

Whether it’s Shah Rukh, Priyanka, Arjun Rampal, Isha Koppiker, Boman Irani, Om Puri, or Kareena doing that incredible number Yeh mera dil pyar ke deewana by Helenji, we see our efforts as a tribute to a film we’ve all seen and loved featuring our ultimate screen hero Amitabh Bachchan.”

Farhan regrettably doesn’t recall ever going on the sets of Chandra Barot’s Don as a child which his dad Javed Akhtar had written. “All my nostalgia for the film comes from watching Don on screen. It’s taken me to a totally new territory.”

Priyanka Chopra Takes The Title Of Sexiest Asian Woman of 2006

October 24, 2006

priyanka_chopra_coolbolly.jpgPriyanka Chopra has been voted The Sexiest Asian Woman of 2006, in a poll conducted by Eastern Eye, a weekly newspaper printed in the UK.

Other prominent Indian faces who have found their place in the top ten are Bipasha Basu, Aishwarya Rai, Mallika Sherawat, Riya Sen and Malaika Arora Khan.

When informed, Priyanka was apparently looking applauded. Sure beating Aishwarya Rai is always an overwhelming experience.

“It is really flattering that people think that way of me but it is a bit confusing as well because I don’t see myself that way. But I am very grateful and very glad.”

Surprisingly Ashwariya Rai, regarded as the most beautiful woman in the world is rated as third when it comes to oozing sex appeal, while the pouty Mallika Sherawat is placed at number four.

“Her combination of classical beauty and brains has massive sex appeal for Asian men,” said Hamant Verma, editor of Eastern Eye, of Chopra. “She is likely to continue the momentum gained from Krrish with roles in her forthcoming films Don, God Tussi Great Ho, Salaam-e-Ishq and Utthaan” he added.

Actress Laila Rouass is the highest ranked British Asian at number five, just beating the Afghanistan-born Hammasa Kohistani who was crowned Miss England in 2005.

Tennis star, Sania Mirza is the top most non-model, non-actress woman to break into the list at number 25.

Eastern Eye carries out the contest each year and women from the Indian subcontinent as well as the Asian diaspora around the world are considered.

Ayesha Takia Won’t Be Kissing

October 24, 2006

ayesha_takia_coolbolly.jpgNagesh Kukunoor’s Dor has opened well across the country and going by director’s testimony Ayesha Takia has been a revelation in his film.

According to him, at first, he was stunned when somebody suggested Ayesha’s name for the role. But he knew that Naseer did cast her in his movie, he thought there must be something to her.

“I watched some scenes from Socha Na Tha, and she emerged as a really natural actress. What really did it for me were the emotions on her face. She’s fantastic.

I’m sure Tabu and Juhi would have given powerhouse performances, but I think, in this story, the only way to create empathy is to keep the character younger,” he gushes.

Apparently floored by Takia, Nagesh offered her a role in his next film but we hear that she has refused the film as there’s a kiss was involved in it.

According to insiders, Ayesha loved the script but given its kissing situation she has no option but to reject the offer.

But this is not the first time she had rejected any movie on the similar grounds. Ayesha also gave thumbs down to Yash Raj’s ‘Neil N Nikki’ as she was adamant not to kiss on screen.

But still Nagesh is full of praise for Ayesha.

“It comes as a pleasant surprise to see a two-year old in the industry trying her hand at a new genre. At a time, when she is not even considered a bankable star to sell an art house product, her decision to act in a de-glamorised set up is laudatory,” he exclaims.

Wow! Ayesha, You’re Rocking!!! Way to Go

Guys! Kajol Is Back. But As Sita Of Ramayana

October 24, 2006

kajol_coolbolly.jpgKajol is on the roll after her hit role in Fanaa. We hear that the talented actress has now agreed to do Rajkumar Santoshi’s high end budget film Ramayan opposite husband Ajay Devgan.

This will be Kajol and Ajay’s first film post the birth of their daughter. Ajay will play Ram in the film while Kajol will enact the role of Sita.

While Santoshi and Ajay have done several films before like Khakee, Lajja and The legend of Bhagat Singh, this is the first time Kajol will act with the director.

Ramayan will have an extremely high budget of around Rs 90 crores and will be produced by K Sera Sera Productions. Kajol and Ajay were last seen together on-screen in the film Raju Chacha in 2000, unfortunately though the film did not do too well at the box-office.

It is a known fact that Ajay Devgan and Santoshi are close friends. Santoshi has even gone on record saying Ajay is his favourite actor, while Ajay has said in turn that he can never refuse Santoshi.

According to insiders Santoshi, who was considering many actresses for the role of Sita, decided to cast Kajol after he finalised Ajay. He was also impressed by her comeback in Fanaa and since he had never worked with her before, approached her for the role of Sita.

Ever since her marriage and motherhood, Kajol has been extremely choosy about her films and has made it clear she will only do projects that she feels are worthy of her being away from her daughter Nysa

Mika And Rakhi Sawant Can Never Be Good Friends

October 24, 2006

rakhi_mika_coolbolly.jpgMika and Rakhi Sawant are at loggerheads again… this time over a song which Meet Brothers and Mika have composed to reminisce latter’s infamous kissing escapades.

Sawant’s arch enemy Krazy Kat aka Nandini Jumani has been chosen to play Rakhi. The animosity between the two item girls is well known and their war had reached a point where Nandini had filed a police complaint against Rakhi Sawant.

Confirming the news Nandini says, “I am doing the video and we will be shooting the video on October 5. The concept revolves around the Meet Brothers asking Mika why he kissed the girl, and he answers in a humorous vein.”

Reacting to entire controversies she says, “It is an utter shame! I appeal to music companies not to take his album. If anyone does, I will not work with that company.”

But didn’t they patch up after Mika apologized to her on a TV show?

“The show did what the judiciary and the police could not do. He apologised to me on the sets of ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’. Finally, I feel good that he did say sorry. But I didn’t patch up with him.. Mika can never be my friend,” she fumes.

Lol! There goes our chance to see another kissing vedio between the two. Pray and hope they be good friends again ;)

Kamal Hassan With Mallika Sherawat In Dasavatharam

October 24, 2006

mallika_sherawat_coolbolly.jpgBollywood actor Mallika Sherawat is set to steam up the big screen playing an ex-CIA agent in a movie ‘Dasavatharam’ with veteran actor Kamal Hassan, where the actor himself plays a record-breaking ten roles!

Ravi Kumar, director of the movie said Sherawat agreed to do the movie even before she saw the script since she was very keen to work with Hassan.

“She plays a bold, modern girl. It was a pleasure working with her as she would report every morning at seven on the dot,” Kumar said.

“But one had to be professional since Kamal himself would reach the sets around 2.30 -3 am everyday!

He would do his make-up for about five hours and by the time Mallika arrived he would be ready for the shot,” he adds.

With a budget of around Rs 30 crore, the film has imported a make-up team headed by Michael Westmore from LA. Kamal has written the script, screenplay and dialogues of the film. Asin is also playing the female leads along with Mallika Sherawat.

“If there is Mallika, there have to be hot scenes,” he said when asked about the scenes between Hassan and Sherawat.

Sherawat also played an Indian princess in her latest movie The Myth with Hong Kong movie hero Jackie Chan.

Katrina Kaif Asked To Opt Out Of Sholay

October 24, 2006

katrina_kaif_coolbolly.jpgTough time for Katrina Kaif are refusing to end. Her skirt controversy at Khwaja Moinudeen Chishti’s shrine at Ajmer was barely over when the petite starlet got another shock from her mentor Ram Gopal Verma.

Verma had announced that Katrina is no longer playing Radha in his Sholay. According to insiders, Ramu was unhappy with Kat’s diction and asked her to opt out of the film.

We also hear that the maverick director is already in talks with Sushmita Sen for the role.

Katrina, however, cites dates problem as a reason of her exit from Sholay.

She says, “I’m not doing the film because the dates are causing too much of a problem. I had signed Sholay a long time ago, and now all of a sudden the dates have changed, so it isn’t working out for me.

“I am busy with Anees Bazmi’s Welcome, Vipul Shah’s Namaste London and David Dhawan’s Partner, and don’t have dates for Ramu Ji’s film right now. But I do wish Ramu the best.”

Ask her about her diction problem and she adds, “I don’t think Ramu would ever have had a problem with my accent. I’m doing roles which need more emphasis on the diction and language. David’s films have long dialogues and funny lines, which I have done. So it’s completely untrue.”

What To Expect From Aishwarya Rai Now

October 24, 2006

aishwarya_rai_coolbolly.jpgYash Raj films’ Dhoom simply turned around the John Abraham’s career yet producer Aditya decided to rope in a fresh appeal for Dhoom 2. He went ahead and roped in even bigger stars like Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai for the role of the villains.

So far this year, Ash fans in India have had to be content with seeing the Bollywood beauty on the small screen endorsing brands or gracing events such as the Cannes film festival. Rai’s only film released in 2006, Provoked has still to do the rounds in India.

However, despair not. The seemingly interminable wait to see the enchanting Bollyood beauty, larger than life on the silver screen, is now nearing its end. Incidently, the wait was not because Rai had too few assignment on hand but because she had too many of them.

Speaking about the diversity of her roles in the forthcoming films Aishwarya told a TV channel, “What’s nice about these three films coming up is that each character is distinctly different. So while Umrao Jaan is a courtesan a lot more ornate visually while Dhoom is very contemporary and racy…something that you have not seen me do.

The actor will soon be seen in four big ticket films in quick succession. The bonanza starts with JP Dutta’s Umrao Jaan. Next in line are Yash Raj Films Dhoom 2, followed by Mani Ratnam’s Guru. Finally, we will see her on 19 Jan 2007 in the $67 million Hollywood period action adventure The Last Legion, distributed by MGM.

What is interesting about Rai forthcoming films is that other than herself, nothing else is common in them. The films belong to different genres, her roles in them are diverse and the filmmakers that made them are a breed apart. All indications that Rai is now a matured actor.
